Succession devolution: a proposal, not a verdict

Every beneficiary is qualified: their relationship to the deceased, their capacity under the will, whether they are an individual or a legal entity. Statutory devolution is proposed for the common cases, and a name misread on a scan finds its person.

Always yours to validate
nothing enters the dossier without your say-so
10 relationships, 4 capacities
from spouse to specific legatee, individuals and legal entities alike
A misread name finds its person
one letter off on a scan no longer leaves a document without an owner

How it works

  1. 01Everything on file is taken into account
  2. 02Every person is qualified: relationship, capacity, nature
  3. 03The split is proposed to you, yours to validate

Statutory devolution is computed, and you validate it

Regorus computes statutory devolution for the common cases: a deceased with descendants, or a spouse alongside ascendants. It returns the reserved share, the disposable share and each person's fraction. It is a proposal, which you validate or correct.

Outside the common cases it does not return an approximate answer: it names the situation it does not cover, and you take that one point back in hand. The rest of the dossier is already in place.

A will, a certificate of heirship or a gift on file is taken into account in the proposal.
An established matrimonial regime enters the computation, with a note on its effect.
The caveats are shown with the result, not hidden in a help panel.
Representation, renunciation, a partial will, earlier gifts to be brought back: Regorus does not compute them, and says so.

Every beneficiary, not only the heirs

An estate brings together people of very different natures, and confusing them is expensive. Regorus distinguishes 10 kinds of relationship, 4 capacities under a will, and legal entities from individuals. These are three separate pieces of information, because they combine: a daughter can be a universal legatee, a partner a specific legatee, a foundation a universal legatee.

That qualification changes what the person receives, and the screen says so. A civil partner is not a statutory heir, they receive only under a will, so they do not carry the same badge as a spouse. An executor oversees the execution of the will and receives no share on that basis. A legatee's share comes from the deed and not from the law, so it falls outside statutory devolution.

A legal entity has no first name, no date of birth and no identity document: its full name fills the name field, and collection never asks it for an individual's paperwork.
A predeceased beneficiary stays on file: their children take their place by representation, and deleting the line would delete the branch.
Every person proposed carries the passage of the document that names them, copied verbatim.
Nobody enters the dossier without your validation, and capacities read off a document remain proposals.
Relationship, capacity and nature are three distinct fields, never merged

The matrimonial regime is established from the marriage certificate

That is the document that gives it for certain, because it records the spouses' declaration as to whether a contract exists. No contract declared means the statutory regime, that is, community of after-acquired property for any marriage celebrated since 1 February 1966.

The regime then enters the devolution computation, with a note on its effect. A death certificate is not enough: it gives the marital status and the spouse's name, never the regime, so the field waits for the marriage certificate.

the current statutory regime takes effect, article 1400 of the Civil Code
The effect is shown
the regime appears with the share it produces, not just its name

A name misread on a scan is attached to the right person

For example, a water bill carried a surname with one wrong letter, read that way by text recognition on a middling scan. Regorus attaches it to the right person anyway, and the document lands where it belongs without you having to link it.

The match only happens inside the dossier, among the people you validated there. That is what makes it reliable: it is not looking for a name in the world, it is looking for it among two to six known people.

No match is ever attempted against a person absent from the dossier
When does the match work?
When the first name matches exactly and the surname is only very slightly wrong. The first name is what distinguishes a mother from her son, who share a surname.
And when two people in the dossier look alike?
The document is put in front of you so you can choose, in one click. It is the only case where Regorus prefers your eye to its own.

Getting started

  1. 01The devolution documents reach the dossierthe practice, or the heirs
  2. 02Named people are proposed, those who cannot inherit ruled outRegorus
  3. 03You validate the list of beneficiariesthe practice
  4. 04The devolution is proposed, with its limitsRegorus

Nothing enters the dossier without you validating it. This is where we refuse to automate: a wrong list of heirs is invisible, and it propagates all the way to the duties.

Frequently asked

Is the computed devolution authoritative?

No, and the screen says so explicitly. It is a proposal, meant to save time on the simple cases and to make the complicated ones visible. You validate, you correct, or you ignore it.

Is a legatee association treated like a person?

No, and that is deliberate: a legal entity has no first name, no date of birth and no identity document. Its full name fills the name field, an icon sets it apart in the list, and collection never asks it for an individual's paperwork.

How do beneficiaries reach the dossier?

Regorus proposes them from the devolution documents, with the relationship, the capacity under the will and the nature that the document gives, along with the passage naming each of them, copied verbatim. You validate the list in one click, and that list is what enters the dossier.

How is the matrimonial regime determined?

From the marriage certificate, which records the spouses' declaration as to the existence of a contract. Without a marriage certificate on file the field stays empty: no other document allows a conclusion without inventing one.

What decides whether a name is matched?

The first name, which must match exactly, and the surname, which may only be very slightly wrong. The first name is what distinguishes a mother from her son, who share a surname. As soon as two people in the dossier come close to the same name, the document is put in front of you so you can choose.

Every beneficiary qualified, the devolution proposed.

Ten kinds of relationship, four capacities under a will, legal entities handled as such, and a split you validate with one click on the common cases.
